 Body Prayers

 

Before you begin: Know and honor your body limits. If in doubt, please check with your physician before doing any kind of exercises. Let's practice non-violence as we go through the movements by being gentle with ourselves. Let's avoid pain. There's too much of it in the world already. 

 

The Acrobat PDF documents below show body prayers as prayers by themselves, or to prepare you for seated/kneeling prayer and meditation. You are invited to follow the sequence, and internalize the sequence so you can do it with your eyes just softly focused on nothing. This allows the prayer to guide your movements, feeling the prayer in your body. Modify the movements as the Spirit moves you. It's your prayer. Your private session with the Holy One.

 

Repeating the sequences for 3 or more times will warm the body, get the circulation going, wake up the mind, ready to receive God's blessings. Try saying the prayer, or even chanting it, as you move. The more senses (and this includes thinking) we use and focus on the activity, the sooner our fragmented and scattered body, mind, and soul will unite with the One.
